Learn More About Ghost Printing And How To Fix It
Repeating images, ghost printing, or just ghosting, these are some of the terms commonly used to describe a printer problem where prints appeared on a page for more than once, twice or more. Though this problem may not occur as often as you get paper jams, might as well learn how to handle it.

What Is Ghost Printing?

Ghost Printing is a problem mostly typical to laserjet printers. Noticeable gray scale prints that come after the original image or text, this is a very obvious symptom to describe such condition. It was referred to as "Ghosting" since the repeated images/text appear lighter or less darker which is a common description for ghost figures.

It is a condition where the printer experienced unusual charges due to residual static electricity from the drum unit. The process of laser printing involves electrical charges, once the discharge pattern messed up, the printer tends to repeat the current image from the rotating drum. Hence, we can say that electrical charge is the top reason why this phenomenon happen. When such condition occurs with your printer, it is quite inevitable to get a printout with duplicate images on it.

What else should you know about Ghosting?

Additional hints that indicate ghost printing problem are the clanking noises inside the printer. Whether or not that's ghosting, once you heard rattling sounds with your printer that simply means a problem. Briefly examine the machine and determine which part or component might be causing the noise. Possible options are - drum, fuser, black & color laser toner cartridges, print heads, and paper feeder, check each of these components. But most likely, the fuser or drum are to be suspected since they're responsible on fusing and transferring toner particles onto the sheet.

Fix & Solutions

When was the last time you cleaned the machine? Dirt and debris may have accumulated inside the printer and now these foreign particles are causing disturbances with the electrical charges. Clean your print device regularly, otherwise you will experience more and more problems aside from ghost printing.

Replace when necessary. Don't wait until your printer learned to talk and complain about its parts that need replacements. Aside from the toner cartridges that you need to replace once empty, there are such components inside the machine that may turned obsolete in due time. One of which is the drum unit or drum cartridge. While some printers are equipped with laser drums that last a lifetime, others require replacement once it reached its limit or becomes damaged. Unless you noticed that the drum is still in a good working state, how about you clean it instead.
