Use and Function of Automatic Duplex Printing

If you're keeping an eye on the features of today's printers, the latest ones, aside from function similarities, their features somehow are also very much alike. And one of these printer features is the Automatic Duplexing, it allows most stand alone and multifunction printers to automatically print in both sides of a paper sheet. On the other hand, the term use for printers without the said capability and can only print on one side of a page is called Simplex Printing.

Duplex printing is use to automatically reverse the paper onto the other side once the first side of the page has been printed. Though a user can manually do the reversing process if the printer doesn't have the said feature. Some office and business type printer nowadays have combined both features of automatic duplexing and reversing automatic document feeder (RADF) .

While some printer nowadays are set in duplex mode as default, you can still change the settings to simplex printing  whenever you want to print single sided documents. With duplex printing feature it can actually reduce almost half the paper usage and cost of your machine. It's economical and cost effective as well, as it conserves and requires less paper when printing in duplex mode. Deducting a small figure from your printer expense is quite a relief, so what's left for you to think of is the cost of purchasing expensive laser toner cartridges and ink cartridges for your printer.

The image to the left indicates the orientation of paper reversing when using the duplex printing features. In edge binding, there are three directions from which the paper is flip or reverse.

  • Duplex-Open to Left - it reverses the page to the other side by flipping the paper from right to left.
  • Duplex-Open to Right - is the inverse process of the first one, it reverses the page to the other side by flipping the paper from left to right.
  • Duplex-Open to Top - it reverses the page to the other side by flipping the paper from bottom to top.
