Our featured printer for today comes from Brother International, an all-round printer equipped with paper tray on its inside, the Brother DCP-J140W Inkjet printer. It comes with a three-warranty granted that the user will only use OEM (original equipment manufacturer) cartridges from Brother.
The DCP-J140W includes a USB cable unlike those previous models that only supports wired setup, yet the cable is not included on the packaging and that you have to purchase it separately. In addition to its connectivity interfaces, a built-in WiFi can be used to connect the device over a network and use it a shared printer.
It has a user-friendly interface which features a single-line LCD display, unfortunately it doesn't offer a touchscreen LCD which is quite normal to some high-end models in the market nowadays.About thirteen buttons were mounted, four below the display while the rest are on the right side. It's actually an old school style but if you'll ask some typical printer users, they would prefer this interface over a full touchscreen LCD, in terms of usability and navigation.
As an inkjet printer, the DCP-J140W offers a quoted print speed of up to 33ppm (pages per minute) for mono and 27 ppm for color printing. It also supports borderless printing with a notable standard resolution at up to 6000 x 1200 dpi (dots-per-inch). Print or copy multiple pages on one page using its N-in1 functionality that aids on reducing paper and ink usage, thus minimizing overall printing cost.
With the printer's 4-ink cartridges system with individual cartridges that allow the user to replace only the tank that runs out of ink. According to PCWorld the DCP-J140W will hit an upfront cost of $79, for the cpp (cost-per-page), mono printing will bring an approximate cost of 9 cents, while colour printing hits 29 cents. Seems costly or is it considerable? It's an inkjet printer what do you expect, it will eat up inks especially when printing full-color photos. As a photographic enthusiast, to have a fully detailed and sharp printout, there's always a price to pay, but take note that it should be worth it to spend.
If you prefer a digital color LED printer, you can try checking out Brother HL-3170CDW, it also feature four individual Brother toner cartridges and a single drum unit. Unlike conventional laser printers that use lasers to create prints, while HL-3170DW uses LED instead.
