They say a little learning is a dangerous thing. It simply means that a small amount of knowledge can mislead people into thinking that they are more expert than they really are. But there's no harm actually when you want to learn some small things about how stuff works and how things really happen.
You don't necessarily need to know thoroughly all the things and processes of a particular stuff, just the basic will do. To make it more clear, let's site an example of a very common equipment that we all use. A laser printer has a lot of purposes, and can be too complicated in several aspects. What if one of these unexpected days your printer suddenly stops from working, and you have no idea at all on how to fix it. If you can't even discover or know the root cause of the problem, how are you suppose to know the right approach to repair your equipment.
Malfunctions and system faults can be a mind crazy matter for someone who doesn't know how to troubleshoot or fix things up. It's better to have some ideas and basic knowledge about your printer so you can apply a basic troubleshooting whenever your printer gets a problem. Let's say you encounter paper jams, or the drum of your laser printer stops working, the laser toner cartridges runs out and you don't know how to replace them. You can't just always call a technical person, report the problem and pay for the service to get it fix, when you can even fix it yourself.
Laser type printers consist a charged roller, the purpose of these component is to attract the laser toner. Other brand of laser printers like from Brother International also have the same component but physically different from the other, instead of a charged roller, the drum from Brother laser printers has a charged wire where electrical currents pass through. Though their components are physically different, both act essentially for the same purpose, to attract the toner from the Brother toner cartridges into the surface the drum.
It's good to be knowledgeable and informed about how great things work. And you'll also learn to appreciate as well as be enticed of the fast paced evolution of our modern technology.
