Some of us may have been aware that once a printer manufacturer discontinuous a specific model of machine due to some certain reasons, the production of its supplies will relatively diminish. We may speculate that probably users will tend to upgrade to a higher model. Thus, replacement demands for the said discontinued model will drop rapidly. But that’s just one of the possibilities that we may consider.

Whatever the reason may be, soon after a year or so, users may find it hard to get replacements for their old model printer. Eventually, this will lead to the option of dumping it out and getting a new one. That sounds similar to what we mentioned earlier, isn't it. But that’s just how it is, not unless they can still find a retailer which can provide them the supplies they need.

Direct Mobile Printing Between Your iOS Device and a Brother Printer

There are many apps that you may consider if you want to try printing through your iPhone, iPad or any iOS-powered devices. Some are very strict and specific which will only work for a certain printer brand manufacturer, while others are considerably generic.

In this case, we feature Brother’s iPrint&Scan app which is absolutely free and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store. Using this application lets you print any supported files or documents, even photos from your iOS mobile devices to any WiFi-enabled Brother printer over a network.

Printing via an iOS mobile device is a bit tricky, but not because the process is kind of difficult to be considered. It’s just that users will have to rely on third-party apps to get things done. Brother MFC-9340CDW Color Laser Printer Toner Cartridge Error

Printer toner cartridges are the laser printer’s main consumable, second are the drum units and fuser. Any of the said items may reach its end-of-life or probably cause a technical problem with the printing machine. Thus, it’s always necessary to not only check only the printer but also the supplies that it uses, to at least maintain its good working condition.

But what if the machine encounter’s a problem due to a failure mainly caused by its own consumable? One example of which is the “Toner Cartridge Error”, which may occur for several reasons. The most typical reason why users experienced this specific error with their printer is because of installing the cartridge incorrectly. However, it’s not always the case. Below we’ll discuss more about the possible reasons why it occurs, as well as some recommended solutions to fix it.

Incorrect Cartridge Installation

There is a proper and general process of installing Brother MFC-9340CDW toners. If it’s your first time to replace an empty toner, please refer on the user guide that came with the machine for the right instructions.

Use of Incompatible Cartridge

Are you aware of the right model of replacement cartridge for your printer? Check the part number (hereinafter called Model Number) of the supplies you are about to replace. You may also bring with you the empty Brother TN225 toners so you can show it to your retailer instead.

Faulty or Damaged Cartridge

Front Cover is Open

In some cases, after installing a cartridge, users often left the front cover slightly open. Always make sure that whenever you open the printer through its front cover, once you’re done with whatever you did inside the machine, close it firmly and tightly. Yes, the printer will prompt a notice that indicates the cover was open, but sometimes it could also lead to unexpected errors. When closing the front cover you should hear a click sound, locking it securely into place.

Four Ways To Do Brother MFC-9970CDW Toner Cartridge Reset

The process of toner resetting is usually performed when the printer’s status LCD continuously prompts a message that says “replace toner”. There are instances that even after re-installing a new replacement the error still exists. So what to do?

Basically, the machine should clear the error message once the user has installed a new cartridge to replace the empty one. However, some users may experience another problem wherein it requires resetting the toner counter just to get rid of the error notice. One good example to use is the MFC-9970CDW color laser printer. We’ve found a few users who experienced the same problem with this particular model. Hence we came up with a rundown of solutions that were mostly suggested by folks who had been through this matter and was able to solve it.

Solution 1: Stop/Exit button

This one can actually be found in the user manual that came with the machine. It will instruct you to go to the reset menu then follow the given instructions.

Solution 2: Open the front cover

Another way to toggle reset menu is by opening the machine’s front cover followed by pressing 1 from the numpad, and it will then take to the menu.

Solution 3: Drum removed and cover is open

If the printer doesn’t show up a message that says “Cover is open”, then remove the Brother DR310CL drum and turn the machine off. Wait a few seconds before turning it on (don’t install the drum yet), now it should display a prompt that indicates the front cover is open. Press 1 from the control panel and it should take you to the reset menu. Using the arrow keys highlight the toner color that you need to reset. Once you have selected the right cartridge, the machine should print a message from the status LCD that says “Accepted”.

Solution 4: Open the cover with the cartridges still installed

Similar to the above solution, this doesn’t require the cartridges to be removed from the machine. Again open the front cover, and then press the Clear button (if it doesn’t bring up the reset menu, try pressing 1 key). From the list, select each function or cartridge color one at a time by pressing the OK button. Just repeat the steps until you reset all the necessary toners. Take note that every time you reset a toner, it should display “Accepted” before you proceed with another color.

Toner Specks and Tiny Dots Appearing On Printed Pages

Specks depending on how and where they appear can sometimes look artistic, and can also be more of like annoying. If you’re familiar with pointillism, it’s a painting technique in which small dots of varying colors are applied in the canvass to form an art. Another example would be the fireworks, specks of lights glittering in the air creating an amazing illusion of flickering stars.

But what if you’re printing a very important document, say, a report for a business meeting. Then after getting the printed material from the output tray of your printer, you noticed some toner specks on the printout. Would you still consider it a form of art or you’ll just be frustrated?

Toner specks or tiny dots that appear on printed pages are problems that printer users may encounter when the imaging drum of their machine is damaged. To further explain, let’s use the MFC-7860DW printer model as our example. It is not actually the Brother TN450 toner (model of replacement use for the sample unit) that has the problem.

The primary root cause of this problem is the imaging drum unit or probably the fuser unit. Either of these components may result to unwanted spots on your prints once they’re damaged. So basically what you need to do to fix the problem is of course replace the obsolete component. The sample unit above uses a separate toner cartridge and drum unit, so it’s not necessary to replace both of them.

Another possible root cause could be the type of media used in the printing process. There are specific types of papers that is suitable for certain printer models and documents. Parchments and acetate papers can also be used on some laser type printers, but not all of those would give the same result. The setting of the printer before you hit the print button is one important factor when printing. Wrong configuration may lead to such problems, as well as using rough-surface media that are not compatible to your printer model.

If you have examined the imaging drum and found out that it isn’t damaged, and you used the right media, but still the damaged exist. Maybe cleaning the machine is the right solution, particularly the corona wire and fuser unit. We’ll not go into much detail on how to clean these two components. What Exactly Is The Printer's Duplex Printing Feature?

Duplex printing or also referred to as double-sided printing is a printer feature that allows the unit to automatically print on both sides of a printed material. Thus, such devices that doesn't feature this capability can only support single-sided printing which is the most typical.

Larger offices, businesses and all other busy environments mostly require this certain feature. Single-function printers, either inkjet or laser jet, uses the abbreviated term ADF which stands for "Automatic Document Feeder". This feeder works with the duplexer to be able to print images, documents or text on a page that is supposed to be bound. A high-end multifunction printer on the other hand, may come with two print engines, thus allowing the unit to print on both sides of a sheet even just on a single pass.

Books for example are bounded, which means that the pages you’re reading are produced through duplex printing. Do you know that even if your printer doesn't have such feature, duplexing can still be done with the unit though it may require human intervention? Yes, a single-sided printer like for example the Brother HL-3040 model can still be used to create double-sided printouts. The trick here is that the user will do the manual process of flipping the printed material from the output tray and reload it back to the input tray. It’s a bit tricky since you have to determine which side of the page the printer prints on to avoid printing on the same side of the page. It is recommended to make a trial and error first before working with the real project.

One advantage of using duplex printing is that it reduces the amount resources being used and or wasted. Albeit it also has the higher chance of wasting resources if ever you unwittingly print on the wrong side. Let’s say, unless you’re particularly sure of what you are doing or will be doing, don’t try use the duplexer. It’s either you save the Brother toner cartridges installed from your printer or it will end up the other way around. Along with the wasted paper materials, the energy consumed during the printing process, as well as time and effort will all went to nothing.

The Secure button will allow users to print a password protected file which is stored in memory. Cancel and Go buttons are clearly labeled in red and green marks. While two LEDs labeled with Data and Error, right below the control panel are assigned to indicate activity or process.

Users are given two options to set the machine’s print quality. First option is the Standard which offers a print resolution of 600x600 dpi (dots per inch), and the second is called Fine print quality which can produced 1200x2400 dpi results. The printer’s rated speed reaches up to 19 pages per minute for mono and the same 19 ppm rating for color. You may expect the machine to print a little slower when printing colored documents, perhaps it’s a typical issue when it comes to color printing.

Furthermore, there are several options that you can play with this printer. Users can set it to print in draft mode allowing the unit to print only in monochrome setting, or set colored printing as default. Duplexing or double-sided printing can also be done, however this functionality requires manual intervention as it doesn’t have an automatic duplexer.

Save Toners Through Brother HL-1111 Mono Laser Printer's Toner Saving Mode

Previously last month we had a post regarding Brother's latest monochrome printers which were released mainly for the company's Indian customers. In the news there were three models introduced, and since I can't simply let my blog be outdated, I made a post that previews a brief information of these new models. However this follow up post will mainly focus with Brother HL-1111, a single-function monochrome laser printer with brother laser toner cartridge saving mode. Brother HL-1111 Design and Features

As stated, the HL-1111 is just a humble mono laser that functions as a printing machine without the copy, scan or fax capability. While its print speed is quite impressive, at 20ppm (pages-per-minute) rating this one can practically compete with those high-end MFCs out there. Design is much simpler, but as the saying goes "simplicity is the ultimate sophistication", this machine has its own smart-looking aesthetics. Considering its weight around 4.5kg, moving it from one desk to another sounds a bit easy with its light built.

Well since it doesn't need a screen display for any major purposes, nor numerical keypads and extra buttons, controls are neatly arranged at its far right edge. Consisting of a power button to turn the printer On and Off, plus two LED indicators which I'm not particularly sure of their purposes. Perhaps one of those LEDs is dedicated for ink level monitoring. While the front of this printer is plain and simple, at the back you might tell the same description. There you'll find a USB 2.0 port to connect the HL-1111 to a printer via a cable, and of course the power port.

Capacity and Print Consumables

Some say that this printer is intended for heavy duty printing, but I don't think so. The HL-1111 comes with a mid-sized main input tray that can only hold 150 sheets of A4-sized paper media, supplemented with a 50 sheet output tray at the top. Although this two trays are adjustable as you can fold it out or in, which is seemingly ideal for less desk space. Guess it would be much better if the printer can automatically fold out the output tray whenever it's needed then folds it back in when the machine is either in standby or halt.

The machine's single-chassis is not just for sporting a simple design, it also provides easy intervention especially if a user wants to access the cartridge slot. Just lift the front cover if you need to replace the pre-installed cartridges. A single-function mono laser printer only requires one brother laser toner cartridge which of course should be black. Its consumable is expected to yield a maximum of 1500 pages, which may or may not be exact depending on your level of printing.

If black&white printing is just what you need from a printer, the Brother HL-1111 is most certainly capable of doing it. Plus it supports toner-saving feature that can help reduce the overall cost of printing which you'll find very useful in the long run. With its affordable market price, though I can't state any figures here, you can go directly to Brother's web site and see for yourself.

Brother Introduced Three Monochrome Printers : One Single-Function And Two MFC With Toner-Save Mode

Brother recently introduced its latest addition to its wide range of printer equipments, three new monochrome laser printers were released in India. These include one single-function which is the Brother HL-1111 and two multi-function centres, the DCP-1511 and MFC-1811. As a sneak preview of their features, here are some of the details we gathered.

Brother HL-1111 Mono Laser

Starting with the HL-1111, a mono laser type that comes with a quoted print speed of up to 20ppm (pages-per-minute) and is basically capable of printing alone. Limited to a USB 2.0 host for wired setup, featuring a dust-resistant twin rollers that is very much useful for preventing paper jams. Although the said feature is also available with the other two printer included in the set. Econo-mode or toner-save mode is one of the highlighted features the HL-1111 has to offer.

The Black Tape Trick To Bypass Low Toner Level On Brother Printers

Printer consumables particularly ink and toner cartridges are typically expensive, hence if there's any possible way to at least stretch their useful life, more likely, a lot of users would be glad to know it. On HP printers, one simple way to bypass the chip sensor from the cartridges is by disabling the device's ink/toner monitoring system. While for Brother printers, the sensors are embedded on both the machine and the cartridge. It's actually a pair, the sensor from the printer reads the other sensor from the cartridge, thus we can say that there's a communication that may exist between these two. As a printer user, we can take advantage of this knowledge and use it on our favor.

Once the installed cartridge reaches a certain level of remaining ink, it triggers the other sensor from the printer and eventually a low toner warning will then be prompted to the user. However, even if it prompts you with low toner level, the sensor's reading is not as accurate as it may seems, and in fact there's a lot more of toner inside the cartridge that you may consume to produce more prints. But we can't just remove the sensors, one main reason is that by doing such thing, it will certainly void the warranty of your machine or it's possible that the printer may failed to work properly.

Instead of getting your hands dirty, here's a very simple way to bypass the sensor from your Brother toner cartridges and printer as well. Technical skills is not essentially required, but at least you should be familiar with the parts and components of the machine that you'll be tinkering. First you have to prepare a short strip of black electrical tape, the cartridges and of course the printer. Make sure that the machine is already turn OFF, if not, unplug it from the outlet and let it rest for a bit to discharge electrostatic charges.

Now to start, you must take note that the sensor has a diameter of about 3/8-inch and commonly installed from either side of the cartridge. Here's a simple way to determine which side of the cartridge is its left or right, notice the side with visible gears, generally that's the left side, thus the other one is the right. If you're not sure how the sensor looks like, position the cartridge to its slot like you're about to re-install it, then try to notice the sensor hole from the printer. The two sensors should match especially with color printers, there should be four holes for each CMYK cartridges.

Here's the tricky part, cut a piece of black electrical tape enough to cover the sensor hole found in the printer, then do the same to the sensor from the cartridges. This trick works effectively with both sensors being covered, whilst it will also work if you can only tape either sensors. If you need to replace the cartridges with empty toners, you have to do the same thing with all the replacements.

The Tape Trick To Fool Brother Toner Cartridges

Printers and cartridges are basically like the market of razor and blades isn't it? Try to buy a razor from any grocery store, some brands may provide spare blades for replacement when the attached blade turned blunt. Whether there's a spare provided or nothing, what you should notice is the price of a razor and its blades. Although it's not accurate, cause honestly you can try shaking the "empty cartridge" and you might just hear some left-over drops inside of it. To think that there's more enough inside the tank that eventually can produce more printouts, it's very frustrating that the printer will no longer accept it. I actually called it the "tape trick", cause all you need is a black electrical tape that will be used to cover the sensor of the cartridges. Brother USA has finally revealed the company's newest addition to their continuously widening range of electronic products particularly in the Print Industry. With Brother's latest line of multifunction centre, the MFC-9000 series, they're practically rivaling with the local copy center business. Simplicity, mobility, compact and sporting a sophisticated look with rich features, these are the basic qualities that the MFC-9000 series has to offer.
