Even if it's a common type of paper, you should still consider the quality and brand of what you're purchasing in order to prevent any problems with your equipment.
Professional Printer Paper can be classified into several types including A(size), photo laser, glossy, waterproof, brochure, wide format (typically for inkjet printer), high density (for laser printers) and many more. As you notice there are types the are commonly appropriate for certain types of printer, some are even compatible for distinct brand of cartridges such as hp inkjet cartridges, brother toner cartridges and so on.
A considerable drawback of using professional printer paper is that it eats an amount of ink as compared to using general purpose paper. High quality papers are generally use for printing photos, brochures, flyers, posters, and all other high resolution types of prints. An advantage of using this type of printer paper is that it last longer and it provides protection when exposed to factors that can damage the printout.
