Factors That Printer Users Must Know About Cartridges
Cartridges, as many often see them as replacement consumables that can be thrown away anytime. These printer supplies should also be given some importance. Since printing devices won’t work without installing cartridges, perhaps they should also deserve the spot light.

Not all of us would be concerned of the specs of a cartridge, which is very common. They will just buy whichever their printer needs without checking a few things that should actually be checked. I bet most of them are not even aware of the page-yield of the replacements they regularly purchased. As a printer user, aside from the unit itself, you should also know a few things about the consumable items it requires.

Some high-end printer models from Hewlett-Packard can produce absolutely fine results. This is simply because these units are equipped with cartridges that are built through HP ColorSphere technology. An example maybe is the HP Color LaserJet 3600 toner cartridge that comes in four basic colors. The set includes one each of black, cyan, yellow and magenta, and is commonly referred to as HP 501A toner cartridges.

Haven’t heard of ColorSphere toners? Seriously, we’re not surprise, and bet you also don’t know the approximate page-yield of the cartridges you’re using with your printer. I think it’s a common human mistake that we tend to neglect and ignore such small details in everything we do.

To help you further, let’s use the above cartridge model example to explain the factors that you must know when buying replacement consumables for your printer.

The most important factor is the page-yield. As shortly mentioned above, it indicates the approximate amount of printouts or pages that a certain cartridge is capable of producing. It is dependent to the work load, how often, and how much you print on a regular basis. If you’re just a personal printer user, standard yield cartridges will do. But for offices and business, high-yields are the best choice.

Shelf life or expiry date is always ignored, and that’s not good. What if because of your negligence you haven’t noticed that the item you purchased was about to expire in 2 days? By the moment you will need to use the item, it could have been expired already. Waste of money, waste of time, and worse your prints are delayed.

Environmental specifications are also to be considered especially if you’re purchasing stocks and will just keep it for a few days in a stock room. Our example above can be stored in a room temperature between -4 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. While it’s operating temperature is in between 50 to 81 degrees Fahrenheit.
