World's Largest 3D Laser Sintering Printer From Dalia University Of Technology

Three-dimensional printing technology is sure a big thing in world history, right now it's not just the technology itself that created a tremendous record. After the announcement from Dalian University of technology, the record for the world's largest 3D printer has been achieved by their humungous laser sintering 3D printer with a build volume of 1.8m3.

Selective laser sintering or SLS, according to Wikipedia :
Is an additive manufacturing technique used for low volume production of prototype models and functional components.
This 3D printer that was developed in Dalian University of Technology, is not only impressive with its size, its mechanism can greatly reduce the regular three-dimensional printing process by 35% less time compared to typical laser sintering printers. Their secret behind this breakthrough lies in the machine's print processing, and that is by making only an outline of each layer rather than building out an entire solid surface. Printing the outline first is a potential key to reduce cost and time as well, after the outline is done it will then be treated inside a 180C furnace. Once it's out of the furnace, the output is solid and sturdy enough as it should be.

Furthermore, Dalian University's 3D printer uses industrial grade sand as a filament or rather print material, unlike with some of those early versions of such machines that require plastic filaments for printing. It's actually one of the latest 3D printers that requires cheaper print material to run.

Finally more people are saying that 3D printing is not a myth anymore, it's existing and serving us with hot and amazing surprises. Actually, it's been real and extant for such a long time, however, only large manufacturing companies and businesses are taking advantage of such technology and equipments. Last year, around the mid-week of October, the first ever 3D printing consumer trade show was held in London. A lot of consumers and curious crowd were able to see a real and fully functioning 3D printers.

The print industry has certainly a lot of great development up its sleeves to bewilder us and hit new records. Take note that 3D printers are not the only machines that could possibly amuse us, in digital-printing there were innovations and advancements that everyone's not so familiar. Manufacturers are continuously revealing new products particularly laserjet and inkjet printers that are very much commendable and worth taking a loot. Besides, on our today's economy, not everyone can afford to have their own 3D printer, hence for now let's settle on dreaming that one day we'll have our own.

3D Printer That Prints Chocolate Treats

Choc Creator Version 1
Chocolates, an irresistible treat to a many and also a pleasant gift for your special someone. This delectable sweet has been rebirth and reinvented in so many ways and varieties from different countries around the world. It means a lot to receive a chocolate gift from someone, whether it's just a branded chocolate bought from a store downtown or a personalized chocolate sculpted to convey a meaning or deliver a message. Indeed, chocolates are often used to carry thoughtful expressions and warm messages, but there are lots of things from which you can use it for several purposes.

Different countries have their own version and unique taste when it comes to chocolate production and presentation. But this one is a bit more amazing, regardless of the country from where it is made or from where it came up, the idea of making these sweet cravings through the use of a printer is something you should know.

Three dimensional printing, or as commonly reffered to as 3D printing is something that isn't new to us, nor even the thought of using a 3D printer to create edible chocolate sculptures, the thing to be considered as new is that this three dimensional printing technology used to create 3D chocolates for any occasion is now available to the masses. Especially now that Christmas is nearly coming to town, the idea of putting up a business by selling personalize chocolate sculptures sounds like a restless cash register.

As it is called, the Choc Creator Version 1 (CHOC EDGE) as I've said is now available to the masses, but don't get too excited, we all now that this 3D printing technology is still on the side of costly machines in the market. But if you're determine and of course wealthy enough to splurge on things that you want, then you can get the Choc Creator for about $3,500 up to $4,600, and you're dream of having the one and only shop that sells 3D printed chocolates for all holidays and occasions is just one pre-order away.

Well if you can't have the printer, get the 3D printed edible chocolate instead from any store near you that offers this kind of technology. Aside from this expensive idea, you can also try other unique ways of using chocolate, like round chocolate with edible picture printed on top and so on. Don't even think of using your printer at home when trying that one, since your printer's laser toner cartridges and ink cartridges contains toxins, not edible inks.

From 2D Christmas Cards to 3D Gifts

3d christmas gifts
Wrap something good this holiday and if you can't think of a new gift for this Christmas, well technology has a lot to offer. I'm not pertaining to cool gadgets, they're way too expensive for my budget, considering that we've got a long line of hands waiting for some gifts. Let's just say, we want something not that cheap neither not that too costly but it should be something new and unique. Everyone wants something new, unique and somewhat personalize. Then how about think of an idea or anything that relates to that person you want to send a gift, then ask someone who has the magic of turning your 2D drawn idea, into 3D.

With the power of 3D printing technology, we can now change our old time ways of thinking what gift could be perfect for our love ones. Christmas cards, it's given that we exchange greetings cards every Christmas season, though I doubt that some of you are still doing this considering a lot of things that our technology nowadays has to offer.

If you can't have a 3D printer, let's say you don't really need to have one but you want the idea of sending gifts that were made from your own ideas and concepts to your families and friends. Then you can still make your wish come true through the use of a web application from Shapeways. They offer 3D designers the magic to convert their own 2D drawn concepts into realistic 3D objects. So if you have all the ideas, all you need to do is draw it and send it to Shapeways, wait for a while and your 3D model will be printed and sent out.

3D printers can do more great things than your typical home printer, though you can still make use of those printers by creating personalize gift cards and greeting cards which are also thoughtful to consider. Since this idea is a bit more expensive, if you can't afford this one, you can still stick with the traditional way of sending greetings by printing cards with warm and thoughtful messages. Equipped your printers with high quality laser toner cartridges and ink cartridges to avoid any delays and problems when printing loads of cards for your families, friends and relatives this Christmas season.

3D Printer Becomes More Reachable

3D printing technology, is almost reachable to the many, an amusement as it was once treated, are now use not just by big and well-known companies, but also by a few who managed to owned one and was able to create 3D printer materials. From the smallest toy stuffs, up to the largest bikes, racing cars and so on, that were made possible with the application of 3D printing technology.

A consumer level 3D printer which has a price tag of about $2000, let's you bring home your own 3D printer together with all the excitement and flying objects inside your head that you're planning to make with this printer. It takes a data file of a 3D object and build it by pouring hot molten plastic filament layer by layer until the form of the desired object rises completely. It's like using a glue gun, where you let the glue stick heated until it becomes pliable enough to pour from the tip / nozzle of the gun. For now, the plastic filament used in most consumer level 3D printers has usually left bubbles on the surface of the printed object.

There's also the so called Form 1 which sell for about $3000, developed by a group of graduates from MIT-Masachusettes Institute of Technology. It uses laser to draw on a liquid-plastic resin that hardens under a specific wavelength of light. It's quite similar to Phantom Geometry, from which wavelength from the laser hardens the light-sensitive resin each layer at a time.

According to Mark Richardson, a Monash University Industrial Design Lecturer, " resin models were best for prototypes, whereas plastic was better if you wanted real parts. "

3D printing technology will definitely lead to a more customizable future in the manufacturing and building industry, and as Mr. Ward said " it would be hard to bring it back down into the consumer price bracket. " Several innovations are quite amusing, like the use of titanium instead of plastic filaments, concretes to build houses, and nano size replicas of different famous structures in the world.

With a basic knowledge of scanning and sending codes from a PC to the printer, anyone can create their own 3D printed objects in a day. The wonders of this technology has a long to way go, and that mystery will be unveiled soon. But one thing's for sure now, if you can't afford to have one of these amazing machine, then stick with what you have, anyway we've been used to laser types and inkjet printers for so long, what more can we ask for? I guest i can ask for a rollback on the price of printer consumables such as laser toner cartridges and ink cartridges that are getting more and more costly.

First Ever 3D Printing Consumer Trade Show

marketbot replicator 2
Technology changed the world, most changes were to improve, while others came up the other way around. Now our era will somehow be change once more, as 3D printing technology finally reaches the crowd. The world's first ever consumer 3D printer show entitled 3D Print Show, was held in the City of London a few days ago. There you'll find the most influential and big names in the industry of 3D printing, and a few interested consumers who happened to see a 3D printer in action for the first time.

In 3D printing, the process basically involves the use of  a special print-head that can create a three dimensional object by repeatedly adding layers on top of another layer base from the given CAD (computer aided design). With the engineers, it can be able to produce plastic models, miniatures, sculptures, and so on, depending on what the user designed. Using our playful minds, we can say like for example you broke a component or a particular part of your equipment, just visit the manufacturers website and they'll provide you the code you need to print a replacement. Isn't that a mind blowing, world changing idea?

Industrial designers, programmers, and engineers are collaborating to bring the 3d printing technology to wider consumers. Good news cause if you can afford to own a Macbook for yourself, then i suggest you write the words "3D printer" on your list. The opportunity to see a 3D printer while it amazingly turns an image from the computer into its three dimensional form is definitely a jaw dropping experience. Too bad I wasn't able to attend the show, actually I have no opportunity at all.

MarketBot Industries, a 3yr old desktop 3D printer manufacturer was given a dedicated room. One of their known manufactured printer is MarketBot Replicator 2 which costs about £1,400. They opened their first retail store in Manhattan.

Since 3D printers now reached the consumer price brackets could it possible that a high number of purchased will be expected before the year ends. CEO Bre Pettis, one of three co-founders of MarketBot Industries tells the audience, "This is the most exciting time ever to be an engineer, an industrial designer, an architect. This technology has arrived to the point where you can make the things you want. The electronics are there to support it... This whole idea of an industrial revolution where you had people move out of the cottage industries where they worked at home and they went to the factory where the machines were. All of us here, we've kind of put the factory into a little box. The factory can be one person at home again."

For those manufacturers, this can be a great opportunity for their profit margin, but the fact that these equipments are nonetheless producing plastic trinkets, a material from which we're struggling to get rid of use, in order to save our planet. Our landfills if not full by now, will soon be, with all those wastes mostly composed of plastic materials. Laser and inkjet printers, uses laser toner cartridges and ink cartridges,  unlike 3d printing technology that uses mainly plastic to produce output. The good thing about laser and inkjet printers is that, their consumables are now reprocess and recycled, producing remanufactured toner cartridges and ink cartridges which are environment friendly.

Anyway, back to the 3D print show, it was an awesome event that people won't regret coming over, with all the amusements and fashion show it featured, one thing's for sure, it can definitely change the world.

Avoid Printer Problems Before It Happen

Every printer user knows the basic about their equipment, but sometimes when someone was caught off guard by the instance, it's quite common for us to hardly think of a quick solution to solve it. Remember the saying, "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure", you can simply apply its principle when it comes to printer maintenance. You can possibly avoid having such problems and troubleshooting with your printer, if you'll learn to sense a potential problem beforehand.

How are we supposed to do this? By checking a few aspects and behaviors that your printer exhibits, you'll be able to know when a potential risk may likely lead to a problem.

First, before you violently react with your printer when it's not printing, see if it's already plugged and you turned it on. Sometimes you'll laugh at yourself when you try to trace the cause of a certain problem. When learn that the equipment wasn't plugged, that's why no matter how many times you hit the power button, your printer wouldn't turn on definitely.

LED indicators, they always serve a handful of help for the user. The color of the light indicates the printer's status such as : low level of inks, paper jams, empty tray, ready to print, stand by, and so on. Be familiar with your printer LED light indicators, someday you'll even thank them for letting you know of the problem.
The printer is not working? Don't get frustrated, neither hammer your equipment. Are you sure you put the right size of paper material, or is the paper tray not empty, or have you tried printing a test page to see if the printer really works and that the cause of the problem may probably comes from the document itself?

Use a nice printer cable, definitely a good one, to avoid having connectivity issues when you print. Sometimes it's the PC's USB port from which you plugged the printer cable that causes you printer to be unrecognized. Ethernet cables has a tendency to get easily broken since the tip of it are made of plastics, especially those printers that are placed in some unstable areas.

Don't bother use substandard laser toner cartridges and ink cartridges, unless you want your printer to wear down easily. Regularly check your printer's consumables, even though you'll get a noticed whenever the ink runs low, it's best to have a routine of checking it so you can prepare ahead of time.

You see, you shouldn't always put the blame on your printers, cause it's your fault for not properly handling your equipment. Hopefully this guide will let you realize the importance of taking good care of your equipments, not just with printers.

Phantom Geometry A Twist In 3D Imaging

Everyone has been talking about 3D or Three-Dimensional printing technology, objects that it can create and things that it can possibly do beyond it's initial purpose. There were several news associated to this technology, as well as intrigues and misconceptions which can't be avoided. But for now, I wouldn't create another allege issue regarding 3D printing, instead here's a great video that's worth watching, and be amaze of how 3D printing can be done with a twist :

Video Credit : Vimeo
A couple created a unique twist in 3D printing, by altering a design mid-print. Great couple thinks alike, Liz and Kyle Von Hasseln the duo behind this work, were awarded the Gehry Prize for their wonderful thesis project, from the California Institute of Architecture.

They called their method as "Phantom Geometry", which is similar to stereolithography. Instead of the traditional process of 3D printing that creates a consecutive layers of molten plastic, the former relies on light-sensitive resins and a light source such as a laser or UV projector which changes the resin into solid form. The couples Phantom Geometry requires a set up of several equipments such as : a light-sensitive resin, UV light projector, and a precision-controlled robotic arms which the couple borrowed from SCI-Arc's Robot House. The projector is mounted on a robotic arm located below a vat of resin which will harden as it’s exposed to UV light. The UV rays can be transmitted to the the vat basically in any shape or form the programmer wants, according to PopSci. The shape becomes hardened layer by layer, allowing successive layers to stay connected. The remaining resin continues coming into the print area awaiting the next light to harden it into place.

The process was surprisingly beautiful as the form of the finished product emerge slowly out of the vat. It was an amazing twist the couple applied in 3D printing technology, and there must be more for us to see in the near future. Except for those news that we heard about creating firearms through the use of this printing technology, although we know it can be possible let's not provoke the issue. Sooner or later, 3D printers will become available in the market from which consumers aside from wealthy businesses and companies, can afford to purchase one for their own use. But it doesn't mean that the use of laser and inkjet printers will be gone for good, cause 3D printers can't replace the functions of our common printer equipments, unless they will create a laser printer that uses laser toner cartridges and can be converted into a 3D printer whenever you wanted. I think I'm the first one to have this idea, or am I not?

Brother HL-6180DW Small Office Monochrome Laser Printer

brother hl-6180dw
Finding the right small-office printer for your office may be really hard for you, that's why as an addition to my previously posted review for The Best SOHO InkJet Printers For Professional Needs , here's another small-office monochrome laser printer from Brother International. The Brother HL-6180DW, a single function monochrome laser printer with fast printing speed and quality printouts. It's not an upgrade of some previously released model from Brother, but rather a completely new configuration, which will definitely fit for your small office.

The HL-6180DW was built with sleek black exterior, weighing just about 25 lbs, offers 7 quick keys and a control panel with 1-line backlit LCD display, plus 2 LED lights when use as standalone. It features a paper drawer of about 500-sheet plus a multipurpose tray that can hold 50-sheets. Brother HL-6180DW has a compact dimension of 12'' x 15'' x 11'', and the 15'' depth shifts into about 23'' when a 50-sheet multipurpose tray is used on the equipment.

Brother HL-6180DW Specifications:
  • Single function monochrome laser
  • Print speeds: up to 42 ppm
  • Print resolution: up to 1200 x 1200 dpi
  • Automatic duplexing
  • 400 MHz processor with 128MB of memory standard
  • 1-line backlit LCD
  • Mobile printing: AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, iPrint&Scan
  • Monthly duty cycle: up to 100,000 pages
  • Paper capacity: 500 sheet drawer, 50-sheet tray standard
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB 2.0
  • Energy Star qualified
  • Operating systems: Windows, Mac OS, Linux
Unfortunately, for users who have been used to quick and easy USB ports, this printer doesn't have one on its front side. One of its great feature is the built-in wireless connectivity, which is definitely an added point for a small-office type of printer. If you opt for non-wireless connection, you can still use the Gigabit Ethernet or the printers USB port connection. Also, naetwork connection is available for the HL-6180DW, users can print using their mobile devices through Apple AirPrint application, Google Cloud Print as well, Brother iPrint&Scan, Wifi Direct, and lastly Cortado Workplace.

This small office monochrome laser printer is set to print with reliability, speed, efficiency and quality, plus a great option to get connected, that's definitely a pack of features. You won't get a problem with the printers accessories since brother toner cartridges are less expensive as compared to other brands that sells laser toner cartridges. As for my conclusion, the HL-6180DW is best suitable for small offices or small to medium sized work-group.

3D Printing Technology For The Masses?

3D Printing Technology has become a trending issue on the internet, as well as on the industry of printing, but with its price tag that surprisingly range from over $100,000 - this totally expensive equipment isn't just too easy to have. This technology has been existing for so many years, but only a few research labs and design studios were capable of having this 3D technology of printing.

For those who are not familiar of the process of 3D printing, it involves taking a digital model of an object, this can be accomplish via scanning, modeling though the use of imaging application, and so on, the image of the object which should be uploaded from a computer will then be uploaded to the 3D printer. Once the printer receives the image of the object, the nozzle of the printer will pour molten plastic materials layer by layer onto its platform, until the shape of the object from the image rises taking its form and springs to life.

In the case of a typical printer, such as laser printer and inkjet printer, these two types of printer uses ink cartridges and laser toner cartridges to produce a document. Whereas, 3D printer uses molten plastic materials, slowly poured layer by layer as thin as 1/10 of a millimeter, until it brings the image into life.

Panda Robotics, the company that developed PandaBot 3D Printer, plans to bring 3D printing technology to the masses. But introducing this kind of technology to the masses, wouldn't escaped the eyes of a million critics, controversies will pop up soon. Consumer manufacturers will be greatly affected once this printing technology becomes available to the masses. There's a logical idea that 3D printing could become a possible threat to copyrighting and patent law.

Once the consumer adoption of 3D printers happens, it would be a challenge to large companies, and big name manufacturers in the printing industry, such as HP, Canon, Dell, Brother, as well as their printer supplies. The fluctuating sales of print supplies like brother toner cartridges, and all other brands will also be threaten for sure. Though there were attempts and allegations about 3D printers are being used to create weapons for illegal purposes, then i think it wouldn't be that easy for them to bring it to the masses.
