Few of us quite know what's Latte Art, it's a very intricate and allow me to say, luxurious way of preparing a cup of coffee. A hot and steaming milk is pour into a shot of espresso which then creates an unusual pattern, design or perhaps an image on the surface. To make it more presentable, a Barista can literally draw in the latte's foamy surface resulting in various designs such as these commonly presented latte art which are called rosetta, hearts, leafs and flowers.
The technique is in the hands of the artist, and is hard to perfect since a design can't be consistently created exactly similar to the other one due to the varying quality and texture of espressos and milks. However, by considering the fact that images before were hand painted, yet now they're digitally produced, then why not this kind of art can't be as high-end as other forms of art? If it's too difficult for us, technology creates a solution, if there's something limited, it does the same which stretches the boundaries, hence, if we want a new latte design then it will provide.
Let's Cafe, a coffee chain in Taiwan, has this queer yet unique way of serving hot brewed lattes. An ordinary cup of steaming hot coffee will vow down to their stratagem, combining the pleasure of sipping a hot cup of coffee with their customers own face printed as a portrait in the surface of their latte.
It works simply just like this, enter the coffee shop, upload your own photo directly from your mobile phone to the printing machine, then place a cup below the machine where the latte will be poured, and finally watch how the machine slowly creates the image onto the surface of your latte. The printed image is also edible since it's mainly made of cocoa powder, and it's really fascinating. Wondering when will Starbucks offer the same service? I hardly doubt they will, and if they do, prepare yourself for the extra charge you'll pay for it.
Let's Cafe - Latte Art
Watch your kids at home as they might get excited and use your printer to create their own latte art, it's gonna be disastrous. Plus they might damage the printer or waste ink cartridges and laser toner cartridges by pouring the inks/toners to their cups of coffee. Actually it's my idea, and I know it's absurd, but I can't afford to have the machine too bad, so I came up with that idea. Kidding aside, if you want to experience this new way of having a cup of coffee with your own face on it, then go visit Let's Cafe.
