Two New Monochrome Laser Printers From Dell Targetting SOHO Businesses

Today's post will give you a brief introduction to Dell's most recent laser printers which were released first week of this month, June 04,2013 to be exact. Both printers are now available in the market, sporting decent specs and set of functionality suitable for SOHO market. The two models offer monochrome laser printing technology which requires a single black laser toner cartridge equipped with a fuser that works for a lifetime. One of their notable feature is the support for Dell's Printer Easy WiFi Installer.

Dell B1165nfw Mono MFP

As a multifunction printer the B1165nfw supports basic functionality such as printing, scanning, copying and fax. It's a good thing they included fax capability with this one, considering that most mono laser printers in its range lacks the said feature. Its built is simply elegant, the chassis has nice curves and edges in matte finish black coating. There's also this adjustable calculator-like control panel installed from its far right edge.

Dell B1165nfw Monochrome Multifunction Laser Printer

Dell B1165nfw Monochrome Multifunction Laser Printer
The new addition to Dell's growing line of MFP mono laser printer, the Dell B1165nfw B&W multifunction printer. It has a light and modern built suitable as a personal print device for home use, and can also work as a shared printer in any small-size office. Features doesn't seem to exhibit quite a leap, but considering its price, it's actually one of the most affordable MFP you'll ever find in the market.

Functions such as print, copy, scan and fax, all in its compact and portable body. It suits well in any micro-office, given that it can print, fax and scan from a PC as well as over a network. Even without a PC, the B1165nfw can be used as a standalone copier and fax machine, which most office would likely need. Paper handling is a bit flimsy, that's why it's more essential as a personal printer, with a standard input tray capacity of 150 sheets (no optional tray available).

Another reason that defines the B1165nfw as a light-duty device is the lack of duplexing (double-sided printing) feature. Hence if you're used to a printer with automatic duplexer, this one might change things around, whilst it's not a big deal if it sits just beside your desk. One of its pros is a 40-page ADF (automatic-document feeder) that supports letter-size and legal-size documents.

The Dell B1165nfw's print engine has a quoted speed of  21ppm (pages-per-minute) which is fairly nice since it's not intended to use for medium-capacity printing. Options for connectivity include, USB 2.0 port, Ethernet, and WiFi which also supports WiFi Direct. For mobile printing features, these are the apps you might want to consider : Google Cloud Print, Apple AirPrint, and Dell's Android app, any of these enables you to print over a wireless connection. No need to worry about the consumables as it only requires single black/mono laser toner cartridges, however replacing it can be annoying only if you print or copy for more than 30 pages a day.

For offices with medium-duty printing, it's pretty obvious that the Dell B1165nfw Monochrome laser printer is primarily not to be included in your list. While for home or personal printing needs, this machine serves essentially what you need, from print speed, capacity, set of features and output quality. A compact and well-rounded printer preferably for light-duty use at such a low price.

Latest Laser Printers With Print Speed of Up To 60PPM

Laser printers are typically best when it comes to print speed, though nowadays there are a few inkjet type printers that fairly matched up with the speed of a laser, they're still first to achieve extremely fast printing speed. By classification, a low-end laser printer can print at a range speed of 8-10ppm up, while a workgroup unit prints at 20-30ppm and above. On the other hand, a laser printer that exceeds the speed of more than 40ppm can be considered a mid-range unit. These figures are basically a rough estimate for standard printing, it may still vary depending on the mode, if it's mono or color and duplex or not.

To keep you updated to some of the most recent laser printers in the market with that formidable print speed ranging from 60ppm (pages-per-minute) and above, here's a shortlist you might want to see:

HP LaserJet Enterprise M603XH
This one falls into the workgroup laser printer category, but it can actually handle high-volume printing considering its paper capacity consisting of four 500-sheet paper trays. The M603XH's maximum input capacity is up to 3,600 sheets, including the 100-sheet multipurpose tray. It's essentially ideal as a workgroup printer with its 60ppm print speed, this machine can handle more than 15 users, and allows printing from sleep mode via HP's Instant-ON Technology.

Lexmark MS811dn Monochrome Laser Printer
A network-ready mono laser printer with a quoted print speed of 60ppm and supports duplex (double-sided) printing. It supports a few interfaces which include a high-speed USB port, media card slots, Gigabit Ethernet, while wireless networking is somehow optional. The MS811dn has a maximum input capacity of up to 4,400 sheets, top with extra high-yield laser toner cartridges, paper refilling and replacements wouldn't be that much troublesome.

Dell B5460dn Monochrome
We recently made a review for this printer, check it out here : Dell B5460dn Monochrome Laser Printer

HP LaserJet 4515n Mono
Another one from HP, and probably the most basic among the 4515 series. It has no duplexing feature and no supporting trays, however it offers a notably high print speed of up to 60ppm, actually it's 62ppm. Maximum paper input capacity can hold about 600 sheets. Connectivity-wise, it supports an Ethernet and high-speed USB 2.0 host and ports.

I'll make a follow up post for this, or at least update this post for further laser printer models that features a print speed ranging from 60 pages-per-minute and above.

Dell B5460DN Monochrome Laser Printer

Dell B5460DN Monochrome Laser Printer
Dell finally came out with a new printer that immensely matched the speed of a few laser printers that offer 60ppm printing speed. The Dell B5460dn Monochrome Laser printer offers a speed of 60 pages-per-minute with some great features at a considerable price. If you have read our previous review for Dell B5460dnf MFP, the one with an extremely large color touchscreen LCD, it's a bit over rated at 70ppm (mono printing).

It's a mono laser printer mainly for high-level printing which is mostly required in large workgroups and offices. The B5460dn is not just a heavy-duty machine as it's literally great in weight at 52 pounds. What's actually nice to it is its all black coat that perfectly suit any professional environment. The printer's front panel consists of a 2.4 inch LCD which is unfortunately not a touchscreen type, plus 4 arrow keys and alphanumeric keypad situated at its right side.

Paper capacity is very much sufficient with a total of 650-sheet which includes a 550-sheet main input tray and a 100-sheet supporting input tray. An automatic duplexer is readily available for printing on both sides of a page. An optional paper tray has a capacity of 2,100-sheet, and if it's not enough you can max it up to 4,400 sheets by getting the additional three 550-sheet trays. It's way too capacious for a mid-sized office, hence it defines the printer's ground as a really high-capacity printer.

When it comes to connectivity, its interfaces are partly limited to a USB host and an Ethernet, quite disappointing since some offices may take advantage of its printing capacity through setting the machine over a wireless network to work as a shared printer. Though the Ethernet may also be use for such purpose. Also, with the use of Dell's Mobile Print application, users with either Android or iOS powered devices may print directly to the printer.

The Dell B5460dn works with extra high-yield laser toner cartridges, and together with its fuser and drum unit, the printer's running cost is basically a penny. This huge machine is definitely one of the mono laser printers in its range that offers the possibly lowest running cost. Well, since most printers in this class are focusing in speed and functionality, printout quality is just enough to be rated as standard. It's still inconsiderable that output quality is falls in a standard level, however the B5460dn's terrible speed and capacity make a good balance.

A Short List Of Some Notable Color LED Printers From Dell And Brother

Laser printers are getting more and more affordable, the cost of ownership rather falls into the same bracket as of inkjet printers. Hence, when LED printers came into view, they give it a nice deal to offer consumers a new style of printing. Whilst these LED printers are basically laser printers as well, they used LED lights which replaced laser lights from conventional laser printers. The rest of its mechanism are quite the same or rather still complex as with laser printer, not so much of difference. Here's a short list of some of the notable LED printers in the market that might suit your interest.

Brother HL-3170CDW Color LED Printer
Brother HL-3170CDW Color LED Printer
A typically compact color LED printer that provides office-oriented features for small workgroups, with a price range of $199.99 - $290. It supports duplex (double sided) printing, plus wired and wireless interfaces for better connectivity. The printer's main tray capacity which can hold 250 sheets, complements its monthly duty cycle at up to 30,000 pages. The HL-3170CDW's front panel has a fixed mounted display with minimal operational buttons, also the screen is just a mono LCD.

Dell MFP 1355CNW Color LED Printer

Dell MFP 1355CNW Color LED Printer
This one doesn't offer much features compared to the first one, however its economical LED engine compensates it all. It doesn't offer an autoduplexer, but there's an ample of options for connectivity which include a high-speed USB 2.0, LAN and WiFi for wireless networking. Monthly print capacity is the same with HL-3170CDW, but they differ in main tray support since the 1355CNW's bin can only hold 150 sheets. Its LCD is a bit larger, a four-line mono screen with numerous buttons including the directional keys. Since the screen has a bigger space to display more characters, users can control paper size and type, or browse through the printers features and settings.

Dell 1250c Single-Function Color LED Printer
Dell 1250c Single-Function Color LED Printer
Another Dell product, however it's just a single-function machine for users who don't need the fax, copy or scan features. Seemingly, aside from less functionality this printer also lacks Ethernet and WiFi support, and a USB host is the only option to use. Less features means less complex, take note that this printer is dedicated for light-duty printing, hence its input tray only holds 150 sheets. Another remark is that Dell 1250c's option to access the laser toner cartridges is partly different. Instead of popping up the front panel, the access door is located at the right side of the machine to reveal the toner tray.

These are just some of the note worthy and latest printer models that use LED printing technology. While there are more them to consider, some are just late models that at this time there might be an upgraded version of them to feature instead. For a full list of LED printers, visit CNET's printer review page about LED printers.

Dell B5465dnf Monochrome MFP Printer For High-Volume Printing

Dell B5465dnf Monochrome MFP Printer
A dedicated MFP printer for small-to-medium-sized workgroups and offices, the Dell B5465dnf Monochrome printer. It can serve as a printer, copier, scanner and fax machine, just a typical all-rounder equipment. One of its highly noted features is the printer's tablet-sized intuitive touchscreen color LCD display about 10.2 inch wide. Directly navigate the machine or print, scan and copy in various forms through the screen.

Just by simply looking at it or without even mentioning its dimension and weight, you'll probably get the idea that it won't be enough to place it on a shared space, thus it needs a throne to sit. It actually weighs about 95 pounds, if you're a weight lifter this machine can make you really fit.

Aside from the printer's touchscreen LCD at front, an alphanumeric keypad seats to its right and is use for entering the machine's PIN, considering that the B5465dnf supports password-protected printing. Few more buttons such as Start, Clear, Cancel, Backspace and Pause, are found on top and below the keypad.

What adds to the printer's towering height are the legal-sized flatbed and a 150-sheet ADF (automatic document feeder) for duplexing or double-sided scanning, copying, and faxing documents.

The Dell B5465dn's maximum paper handling capacity can reach up to 3,300 sheets, divided between its standard capacity which includes a 550-sheet main input tray, a 100-sheet secondary tray, plus its ADF. While its optional trays consist of a 2,100-sheet high-capacity tray and an extra 550-sheet tray. With all these, probably any medium-sized workgroup or office can have more than an ample of paper sheets for a month or so.

It supports a high speed USB port and Ethernet interfaces for connectivity options, while wireless printing can only be available once your purchased its optional WiFi interface. Dell rated the B5465dn with a really fast print speed of 70 ppm (pages-per-minute) for standard mono printing. The B5465dnf printer is also one of the mono lasers that provides an efficient cost per page of about 1 cents. It requires a single black laser toner cartridge that yields up to 45,000 pages ($409 at Dell US).

Dell B5465dnf Monochrome MFP printer is really a tough and speedy machine dedicated for high-volume printing suitable to most SMB and medium-sized workgroups.

Dell C1760nw Color Laser LED Printer

Dell C1760nw Color Laser LED Printer
Dell C1760nw Color Laser LED Printer
The emergence of LED-based printers in the market especially the ones developed by Dell are totally an awesome advancement. Instead of lasers which are typically used in laser type printers, LED lamp arrays are doing the task of traditional lasers. This innovation leads to a better printing process, especially on most compact printers. It also managed to maintain both print speed and printout quality in a much pleasing level.

One considerably worthy to mention among the LED printers is the Dell C1760nw Color Laser Printer, a single-function color LED printer. It's very simple, from its design, built, and also with its performance, basically all you can do is print. If you just need a personal home or small office printer, this one will probably suit your needs, I mean printing needs. Don't even ask for a duplexer, as C1760nw doesn't support that functionality.

If Dell C1760nw does sound a bit boring, well there's a multifunction version which is also built with the same print engine, consider it as a work-around. The good thing about this printer is that it really is a compact printer which can perfectly fit and share a space on your desk, and it only weighs about 23.4 pounds. The printer's paper handling capacity supports a 150-sheet input tray, plus a 10-sheet override tray which can be useful for printing on special medias.

Another notable feature of the Dell C1760nw is that it supports a built-in WiFi which can be used to connect the printer over a network, or if you prefer wired connection there you have a 10/100 BaseT Ethernet just at the back of the printer. In addition, there's also a USB cable that can be used to directly connect the printer to a PC. Although it does provide wireless printing, unfortunately it is only limited to Dell's very own Mobile Print App for mobile printing support from Android powered devices, as well as iOS devices.

Forget about a full touch screen colored LCD, instead suit yourself to a two-line monochrome LED display,  four navigational keys just below it, plus an easy Menu access button and a Cancel button. Printing processes can only be initiated from a PC or mobile device, the keys only serve for navigation when configuring the printer's menus.

The Dell C1760nw can be equipped with four individual laser toner cartridges which can be access from a hatch at the right side. Aside from the standard-yield toner cartridges that come with the printer, there's also an available high-yield cartridge.

If what you need is an LED printer with print-only functionality, plus a WiFi support, the Dell C1760nw Color Laser Printer will certainly be good enough for your printing needs. With print speed and printout quality of par with most laser printers in the market, added a modest paper handling and printing volume capacity, the Dell C1760nw makes a good choice.

Dell B3465dnf Mono MFP Laser Printer

Dell B3465dnf Mono MFP Laser Printer
The new Dell MFP is one of the totally expensive printer that I've known early this year, well considering that it's a monochrome laser printer. The Dell B3465dnf Mono MFP Laser Printer has a monthly duty cycle of up to 150,000 pages which speaks for itself why it becomes suitable for medium to heavy-printing capacity. If you'll use it for a small-sized workgroup, then it serves more than enough for that purpose. It highlights a notable printout quality, extremely fast print-speed, plus a compellingly low cost-per-page.

What's more noticeable with Dell B3465dnf is that it features a 7-inch intuitive touch screen control panel, it's almost like having a tablet dedicated for the printer alone. Also, the printer's front panel comes with a few buttons, numeric keypad, Cancel/Restart key, and Home key which returns a user back to the main screen. The large touchscreen LCD provides more than displaying initial prints and system navigation, while there's an array of choices and options that users can use.

The B3465dnf paper handling capacity is quite modest, offering a 550-sheet paper drawer, plus a 100-sheet standard tray for multipurposes. It also supports an ADF (automatic-document-feeder) for double-sided printing. If your office requires more than the 650-sheet minimum capacity, then you can purchase an additional drawer up to three times to reach the printer's maximum capacity of 2,300 sheets. In addition to its optional parts, there's also an available stapler finisher that you can purchase for only $249.99.

One of the printer's highly noted feature is its print speed, Dell rates the B3465dnf Mono laser printer at 50ppm (pages per minute). Printout quality on text are sharp and readable enough even on small font texts, although the color tone tends to turn grayish on smaller fonts. When it comes to graphics quality, it should be fine enough for printing professional and business handouts. Quality-wise the B3465dnf is by far a match for most mono laser printer for business needs.

Networking and connectivity interfaces include an Ethernet, an optional WiFi which you have to purchase if you want to print wirelessly with your tablets and smartphones, and a USB port which allows to print from and scan to flash drives or memory key. Since it's a monochrome printer, it only requires a single laser toner cartridge from Dell.

Summing up all its good points based from what you've read above, the Dell B3465dnf Mono MFP Laser Printer, regardless of the printer's price, is a good fit for small to medium-sized offices. Its duplexing functionality, a definitely large touchscreen LCD, top with all the other great features it could offer, there's more than the price that you should be looking at.

Dell C1660w Color Laser - Affordable Printer with Quality Toner Cartridges

Dell C1660w Color Laser
Dell came up with a new model of color laser printer, the Dell C1660w Laser Printer which uses LED laser-like technology. It is enticingly affordable for a small office coloured printer, but the catch is you have to pay double for its toner cartridges consumables. It is a fair enough trade-off since you definitely get what you paid for, as the quality and output are indeed superior. The Dell C1660w is leaning towards light-volume printing demand and works suitably well for small offices and professional individuals requiring a color laser printer with decent speed and features.

Regardless of the printer's costly laser toner cartridges consumables, the output quality is of par, both in plain text and graphics. Since it's dedicated for small working environments, the paper handling capacity is greatly reduce to a minimum of 150-sheet main input tray, while the output tray can handle a maximum of 100 sheets. If your office requires Duplex (double-sided) printing feature, then better drop this off your list as it doesn't support duplexing, however there's a dialog prompt that will guide the user on doing the same process with instructions on how to insert pages on the printer.

Connectivity interfaces are modest, the Dell C1660w supports USB and WiFi connectivity options for printing virtually on the cloud. In addition, the printer also supports WPS, plus a blue LED indicator that notifies user whenever the printer is connected to a wireless network. It features a two-line LCD display with some typical five control button panel below it. The printer's display although not a touchscreen one, can still be helpful as it provides system status and prompt which includes a notice about the toner cartridges whether their almost half way full or need to be replaced.

Dell rated the printer with a print speed of up to 12ppm (pages per minute) for standard black printing, and 10ppm for color printing, both rates are applied on A4 and letter size documents. Users don't have to worry about the laser drum unit, as it is a lifetime unit, but replacing it is allowed. But if you want to save, then spare your money from purchasing replacement drum unit, and do all the spending for its laser toner cartridges. Just to remind you, they're definitely expensive.

If you want a color laser printer in the office, that can offer both quality and reliability, then Dell C1660w offers a nice speed, printout quality, handling capacity and it is a modestly priced unit.

Dell B2360dn Monochrome Laser Printer

Dell B2360dn Monochrome Laser Printer
The Dell B2360dn Monochrome laser printer is not a replacement of Dell B2360d, it's considered as the enhanced version of the later, with an additional network support feature. If you compare both model side to side, you'll find them identical to each other, although technically they are. It would make it better if they turn the Dell B2360dn into a color laser printer, but still it remains as a monochrome laser printer. Considerably suitable for mid-to-heavy printing capacity as a shared printer in a medium-sized office or workgroup.

The added networking features include an Ethernet connector and an optional WiFi adapter which can be bought separately for a quite decent price. Unlike the Dell B2360d, this new model can serve as personal printer or a shared printer as well.

For the printer's paper handling capacity, it supports a maximum of 850 sheets considering that you purchased the optional 550 sheet capacity optional tray which comes in two variation - standard and lockable, sold separately. But without the optional tray, the Dell B2360dn handles a total of 300 sheet capacity, this includes a 250 sheet drawer which serves as the main tray and a standard 50 sheet MP (multipurpose) tray. It supports printing in maximum media sizes of A4 (8.25x11.7 inches) and letter size papers.

Dimension and weight is again identical to Dell B2360d, reasonably heavy for a shared printer, and small enough to eat up some portion of your desk or place it on some extra space in a room.

Considerably fast print speed, the Dell B2360dn can shoot at a rated speed of 40 ppm (pages per minute) similar to Dell B2360d mono laser printer. It also supports Duplex (double-sided) printing, with a standard print resolution of up to 1200x1200 dpi (dots-per-inch). The Dell B2360dn has a monthly duty cycle of 80,000 pages.

In addition to its wireless connectivity feature, users can enjoy direct printing from their Android-powered smartphones and devices through Dell Mobile Print app. The Dell B2360dn is equipped with a low maintenance cost and long-life imaging drum unit that can stand to last up to 60,000 pages, and premium quality Dell laser toner cartridges that can deliver professional output.

If your office is need of a workgroup or shared printer that can provide some generous features and capacity, the Dell B2360dn is of par a good choice. Fast and affordable, available for a direct price of $299.99 at Dell store.
